The Whirling Woodpecker™, made by Outfoxed Products®, is a great little decoy, and has worked well for me. However, I realized that there were setups/stands where I didn't want it running all the time and draining the AA battery, so I designed a timer circuit box, and attached it to my Foxpro® 416B electronic caller. Two control wires come out of my timer box, one goes to the caller AUX jack and the other to the modified Woodpecker. Both caller and bird are placed or hung in a tree or bush.
Now when I press the AUX button on the transmitter, the caller activates the timer circuit and the Woodpecker wing rotates for a period of several seconds through about 3 minutes (Adjustable by the hunter)) and then "times out" and stops. During this time I can hit my MUTE button and send that distress sound, and one will not interfere with the other. If I want to activate the bird after it "times out" I just hit the Aux button on the transmitter again and away we go...saving the AA battery inside the bird from an early death......
NOTE: When I modified the Whirling Woodpecker, I made sure that when I'm not using this special circuit, the bird works as originally designed...
NOTE: The timer circuit utilizes an internal 9 volt battery to activate the timer only...

Bottom picture shows the timer box. This is a preliminary working design and will be painted with either camo or dark color paint. It will also have a Velcro™ strip for attaching to your caller. On/off switch to be added.
