"Predator Light Modification?" "Why didn't I think of that?"- Thomas Edison.....
Like many first time night hunters I spent a lot of money constantly buying lights for hunting. I knew I need to get a red filtered light. At first a good friend and hunting buddy gave me a nice 9Volt lantern battery. He painted the case a real nice camo color and the light worked very reliably and was inexpensive to keep running. However, the big drawback for me was the light just was not bright enough. Next, I moved on to a tactical 300 lumen flashlight which was wicked bright with the clear lens. However, when I installed a red lens it only met my needs to about fifty yards and the batteries didn't last that long. Again dissatisfied, I spoke with an outstanding fox hunter after a presentation he gave on hunting fox at night at the first annual Pennsylvania Predator Hunting Expo. He directed me to the hard hat light used by coon hunters. Again, I found the light very dull and the battery was killer heavy to tote around and after one hunt I sent it back and paid the restocking fee. Finally I got a light to mount on my scope that was rated beyond 100 yards. The light was fair but it didn't last very long at all. Then I found John and I saw the light! He modified my scope light for 12 volts, and hooked it up to a better batteryelectronic dimmer package. I have been very satisfied ever since and have finally found a light that exceeds my needs. John was great to work with and even made me a system to use my light as a hand held or on a hat. I wish I found John sooner...it would have saved me a lot of money and put a few more reds on the stretcher!
